Band 7/ Sister/ Charge Nurse/ Ward Manager/ Team Leader Induction Day
Are you a Band 7/Ward Manager/Leader/Sister new in post?
Are you looking to gain a deeper understanding of what is expected of you in your role?
Come along to our one day induction day to discuss:
- Expectation of the leader role
- You as a leader
- Budgeting
- E-roster
- Managing challenging conversations and more
You must (these induction days are only for Nursing and Midwifery Staff):
- Manage 15+ people
- Manage E-roster
- Manage a budget
- Oversee staffing, complaints, grievances etc.
- Be in your post less than 12 months

Early Career Leadership Fellows (ECLF)
Are you passionate about excellence in nursing and midwifery practice?
Do you want to make a difference to practice in your clinical area and develop your own clinical leadership skills?
Would you like to influence the future development of career pathways for Nurses and Midwives at NUH? You will develop your knowledge and actively contribute to raising awareness of an area of practice to ensure the delivery of safe and harm-free fundamental care.
We are seeking 26 motivated early career nurses and midwives to undertake a clinical leadership development opportunity.
Excellence in Care Focus
Select an area to focus on from the following options:
- Excellence in skin health and integrity
- Encourage safer mobility
- Promote healthier bladder and bowel
- Optimize nutrition and hydration
- Dementia Care
(Please note applicants must have completed their first year of preceptorship to be eligible to apply)
There are two cohorts available for this years ECLF, you must be available to attend every date in your cohort.

LEO Course
The LEO (Leading an Empowered Organisation) Course is a four day leadership programme with three full days of teaching followed by a fourth day where you will be asked to present a very small project in the format of a PowerPoint presentation using the principles you have learnt.
LEO focuses on empowerment, dignity and mutual respect, aiming to produce strong and efficient leaders. The course will teach you the principles around articulating your expectations, building relationships, leading change and much more.
Matrons Professional Development Day (Half Day)
These workshops are for matrons across Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) to network with colleagues and have time to discuss best practice and develop knowledge on the Matron role. The workshops will focus on topics you have requested and will give you the opportunity for reflection and discussion. Matrons will also receive updates from senior professionals across the Trust.

SSSA Training and Preceptor Training

Full SSSA Practice Supervisor Training and Preceptorship Training
Who is the training for?
This is for any registered healthcare professional - Nursing Associates, Registered Nurse (any field), Midwives, Operating Department Practitioners and AHPs.
What is the training for?
This training is aimed at new Practice Supervisors who will be supporting learners (student nurses, trainee nursing associates, student midwives, and newly registered practitioners) in clinical practice. This training will introduce candidates to the Future Nurse standards and provide them with the information required to support learners in practice effectively. The teaching day consists of group discussions and activities based on the role of Practice Supervisor including student induction to the placement area, setting objectives, Pebblepad, identifying underperforming students, raising concerns and values and behaviours. This training will also introduce candidates to Preceptorship at NUH and how they can support newly registered staff.
To gain the Practice Supervisor qualification, candidates must:
- Attend a taught study day delivered by the Institute Practice Education Team
- Complete e-learning via Moodle
Study hours and mode of delivery
- 7.5 hours: taught session this is face-to-face
- 7.5 hours: self-directed study day to complete the e-learning activities within the digital workbook via Moodle
**Please note that the independent study day can be given before or after the taught session. The eLearning activities are additional content and information, therefore should not affect the candidate’s ability to complete the activities prior to attending the taught session.**
SSSA Practice Assessor Training
Who is the training for?
This session is for nurses who have previously undertaken SSSA Supervisor Training course and possess a Practice Supervisor qualification. You must have actively supervised learners for a minimum of 6 months before completing this training.
What is the training for?
The training is for existing Practice Supervisors who would like to progress on to become Practice Assessors. The training looks at what is expected in the role of Practice Assessor and includes activities and discussions around supporting learners, identifying underperforming students, difficult conversations, values and behaviours, action planning and completing Pebblepad.
Study hours and mode of delivery
The training is face-to-face for 3 hours.
SSSA Update for Practice Assessor, Practice Supervisor Training and Preceptorship Training
Who is the training for?
This training is for both Practice Supervisors and Assessors who have completed their training more than two years ago.
Newly qualified staff, who completed SSSA training at university are also asked to attend this training after 6 months of being in post.
What is the training for?
This training is to ensure you are kept up to date with NMC education standards, Trust and University processes and guidelines.
This training will look at what is expected in the roles of Practice Supervisor, Practice Assessor and how you support learners in clinical practice. The roles and responsibilities on Pebblepad will also be covered. There will be group discussions, activities based on these roles and examples of Pebblepad assessments and action plans. There will also be an update on the Preceptorship program and how you can support newly registered staff.
Study hours and mode of delivery
This training is held face-to-face for 3 hours.
